We are already under the threat of government shutdowns, austerity, and cutbacks before spending money on Syria. There are existing diaries here on DailyKos that do the math and spell out the cost very clearly so I will refer you to those as background for this diary. Reading the source material is better than any summary I could create so please click through and read the contents of the links in full.
If you still think that we can afford starting (1) another illegal (2) war (3) when there are (4) better alternatives please explain in the comments.
(1) Firing, shooting, lobbing, dropping bombs at/into a country that we are not already at war with is "starting" a war. If we are already at war then "escalating" could be used instead of "starting".
(2) The war is illegal if undertaken without UN approval. See link.
(3) War. Again, attacking another country with missiles / bombs is an act of war. Even if some choose to call it "limited" or "targeted".
(4) There are alternatives that should be exhausted before we resort to war; much less illegal war. See link.
